Unser Plan auszuwandern und die Umsetzung, Teil 1/Our plan to emigrate and its implementation, part 1 (English version below)
Seit einigen Jahren haben mein Mann, unsere Tochter und ich bereits immer Mal wieder darüber gesprochen Deutschland zu verlassen. Welche Länder waren für uns geeignet in Bezug auf Sprache und Klima? Wann wollen wir unsere Pläne in die Tat umsetzen – als Rentner, noch während unseres Arbeitslebens? Was wollen wir dann tun? Als Angestellte Remote arbeiten, sich selbständig machen oder einfach das Leben genießen?
Unter dem Aspekt der Auswanderung haben wir uns in den letzten paar Jahren während unserer Urlaube etwas umgesehen. In die engere Wahl kamen Österreich und Schweiz (wegen der Sprache), Spanien, Italien und Griechenland (wegen dem Klima).
Letztes Jahr ist, ohne Einverständnis unserer Tochter, weil sie aktuell noch nicht mitkommen kann und ständiges Fliegen hasst, endlich unsere Entscheidung gefallen!
Wir haben uns für Kos, Griechenland entschieden.
Nicht nur, weil wir bereits einige Freunde, teilweise schon seit 10 Jahren, haben, sondern auch, weil uns das Klima, die Natur, die gr. Mentalität, besonders die Gastfreundschaft, Hilfsbereitschaft und Herzlichkeit der Menschen, und vor allem auch das gute und gesunde Essen sehr gefällt.
Wir stellten fest, dass wir auf Kos weniger gesundheitliche „Wehwehchen“ haben und falls doch, gibt es sehr kompetente Ärzte, deren Behandlung wir gerne auch privat zahlen, wenn wir müssen.
Zur medizinischen Versorgung werde ich aber später, zu gegebener Zeit, nochmals zurück kommen.
Nur sei kurz erwähnt: Mein Blutdruckmedikament, das ich in D teuer privat bezahlen muss, weil es ein Original ist, das die KK nicht übernimmt, erhalte ich in der Apotheke auf Kos ohne Rezept und um mehr als die Hälfte günstiger!
So nun aber zurück zu unserer weiteren Vorgehensweise.
Mit Hilfe und Tipps von Freunden, Fremden, FB Freunden, ehemaligen und aktiven Maklern, haben wir uns verschiedene Kaufobjekte und Grundstücke angesehen.
Eigentlich wollten wir erst einmal etwas mieten, aber nichts hat uns zugesagt – wir sind wohl zuuu verwöhnt 😉
Deshalb entschieden wir uns für den Kauf. Aber: Die Häuser waren entweder zu groß, zu teuer oder für unsere Vorstellungen zu „verbaut“.
Also kommt nur noch Grundstück kaufen und Fertighaus bauen für uns in Frage.
Aber wo wäre ein ideales Grundstück für uns?
Kos Stadt oder Stadtgrenze? Pili? Kefalos? Zipari? Antimachia? Kardamena?
Kos Stadt – zu teuer, Grundstücke klein, Risiko zu groß, dass archäologische Funde den Kauf blockieren oder sogar stoppen.
Pili – zu weit weg, vor allem im Sommer und nur kleine Baulücken.
Kefalos – zu teuer, hauptsächlich Hanglage und über Winter „tote Hose“.
Kardamena – da hat uns persönlich einfach die Lage nicht gefallen.
Antimachia – wir hatten sogar schon ein Haus in der engeren Wahl, war aber jemand anderes schneller. Die Grundstücke liegen für unser Vorhaben eines Bungalows zu ungünstig. Und: Fluglärm – den haben wir in D eh schon zuviel!
Dann gab es noch ein tolles Projekt in der Nähe von Kefalos, fast am Strand, das leider von der Regierung zurück gestellt wurde, möglicherweise sogar ganz eingestampft wird. Denn: Es darf nur noch gebaut werden, wo eine öffentliche Straße direkt an das Grundstück grenzt. Außer es steht bereits ein Neubau darauf!
Dann haben wir schließlich ein Grundstück, knapp 5000 qm (Vorgabe der Regierung, sobald das Grundstück außerhalb der Stadt-/Dorfgrenze liegt!), am Rande der Kleinstadt Zipari gefunden. Eigentlich war es ursprünglich 10 Tsd qm, wurde dann aber geteilt. Es grenzt an einer Seite an einen Olivenhain, zur anderen an eine kleine Reihenhaussiedlung, hat Berg- sowie Meerblick und ist 1000m von einer schönen Sandbucht entfernt.
Leider haben alle anderen Grundstücke in Zipari uns nicht zugesagt. Meistens Baulücken oder Blick verbaut. Bis auf eines, aber das war bereits von einem Hahn und seinem Hennenharem in Besitz genommen worden. Die wollen wir natürlich nicht vertreiben 😉
Zipari hat alles, was man braucht, über die Wintersaison sind die meisten Läden und Tavernen geöffnet und es besitzt den typischen griechischen Charme. Man kann alles in kurzer Zeit fußläufig erreichen.
Neugierig geworden, wie es weiter geht? Nur soviel verrate ich, ein Umzug in diesem Jahr könnte möglich werden …..

For several years now, my husband, our daughter, and I have been talking about leaving Germany. Which countries would be suitable for us in terms of language and climate? When do we want to put our plans into action—as retirees, or while we are still working? What do we want to do then? Work remotely as employees, become self-employed, or simply enjoy life?
With regard to emigration, we have been looking around a bit during our vacations over the last few years. Austria and Switzerland (because of the language), Spain, Italy, and Greece (because of the climate) made it onto our shortlist.
Last year, without our daughter’s consent, because she can’t come with us at the moment and hates flying, we finally made our decision!
Not only because we already have some friends there, some of whom we have known for 10 years, but also because we really like the climate, the nature, the Greek mentality, especially the hospitality, helpfulness, and warmth of the people, and above all the good and healthy food.
We chose Kos, Greece.
We noticed that we have less health problems in Kos, and if we do, there are very competent doctors whose treatment we are happy to pay for privately if we have to.
I will come back to medical care later, when the time is right.
Just to mention briefly: I can get my blood pressure medication, which I have to pay for privately in Germany because it is an original that is not covered by health insurance, at the pharmacy in Kos without a prescription and for less than half the price!
But now back to how we proceeded.
With the help and tips from friends, strangers, Facebook friends, former and active real estate agents, we looked at various properties and plots of land for sale.
We actually wanted to rent something first, but nothing appealed to us – we are probably too spoiled.
That’s why we decided to buy. But: the houses were either too big, too expensive or too “built up” for our liking.
So the only option left for us is to buy a plot of land and build a prefabricated house.
But where would be the ideal plot of land for us?
Kos town or the outskirts? Pili? Kefalos? Zipari? Antimachia? Kardamena?
Kos town – too expensive, plots are small, too great a risk that archaeological finds will block or even stop the purchase.
Pili – too far away, especially in summer, and only small building plots.
Kefalos – too expensive, mainly hillside locations and “dead quiet” in winter.
Kardamena – we just didn’t like the location personally.
Antimachia – we even had a house on our shortlist, but someone else was quicker off the mark. The plots are too unfavorable for our plans to build a bungalow. And: aircraft noise – we already have too much of that in Germany!
Then there was a great project near Kefalos, almost near the beach, which unfortunately was put on hold by the government and may even be scrapped altogether.
This is because construction is now only allowed where a public road borders directly on the property. Unless there is already a new building on it!
Finally, we found a plot of land, just under 5000 square meters (government requirement if the land is outside the city/village limits!), on the outskirts of the small town of Zipari. It was originally 10,000 square meters, but was then divided. It borders an olive grove on one side and a small row house development on the other, has mountain and sea views, and is 1000 m from a beautiful sandy bay.
Unfortunately, none of the other plots in Zipari appealed to us. Most were either vacant lots or had obstructed views. Except for one, but that had already been taken over by a rooster and his harem of hens. Of course, we don’t want to chase them away 😉
Zipari has everything you need. Most shops and taverns are open during the winter season, and it has that typical Greek charm. Everything is within walking distance.
Curiously to find out what happens next? All I’ll say is that a move this year could be possible…
